Today it’s the MoP prepatch! Yay! cheer! /dance! etc….
It is time for a lot of changes – loss of wand slot for caster, loss of throwing and ranged weapons for melee, hunters can no longer melee (lol). Hunters lose their dead zone in exchange for now having to get expertise. The Theramore event – no don’t hurt Jaina!
But more importantly, new talent system. Sure Blizzard says there is the freedom of choice…but imo it’s really an illusion. In some of the tiers there might be some play there, but if you are primarily a PVE player, then there are not as many choices as one would think.
Now I am primarily a Disc priest, so let’s take a look at the priest talent choices.
Tier 1 – aka CC tree
Void Tendrils – Tenacles that hold things in place etc etc.
Psy Fiend – places a Psyfiend at the designated location, the fiend then will cast psychic scream.
Psychic Scream – same old spell like we have currently.
At least to me it seems like the tendrils will have the most use, as in PVE you don’t want mobs running around poss pulling other mobs.
Tier 2 – movement enhancement
Body and Soul – PW:S increase movement for a short period of time.
Angelic Feather – places a feather on the ground. When runover – players gains more movement speed.
Phantasm – removes movement restrictions.
And the winner here is Body and Soul, Angelic Feahter seems like a hassle to use, and Phantasm is definitely for PVP.
Tier 3 – Mana Helping stuffs!
From Darkness, Comes light – Cast smite, heal, GH, etc, you have a 15% chance to get a free FH.
Mindbender – replaces Shadowfiend – 1 min CD – 1.3% per attack, lasts 15 seconds.
Power Word: Solace – 1.5s cast Strike an enemy with the power of the heavens, dealing 2226 to 2496 (+ 85.6% of SpellPower) Holy damage and restoring 0.7% maximum mana.
So appears from darkness, comes light is out. Now between MIndbender and PW:Sol, that can be tougher.
Mindbender – fire and forget spell (+) Has a cooldown (-)
PW:Solace – no cooldown, cast when you need it! (+), Mana gain vs raid dmg (-)
Both have their plus and minuses. Also keep in mind to get more mana then the mindbender with PW:Sol you will have to cast quite a few casts of PW:Solace to gane more mana then the mindbender. I think I have seen the # of casts to be around 5 a min.
Tier 4 – Priest Survival – opps I stood in bad!
Desperate Prayer – the good ol’ standard, never a bad choice – free instant heal on a 2 min CD.
Spectral Guise – Your shadow blurs into the darkness, leaving your true form behind. As a shadow you are stealthed, but remain in combat. Lasts 6 sec or until your true form is hit by 3 direct attacks. (sounds meh)
Angelic Bulwark – Anytime a damaging attack brings you below 30% health, you gain an absorption shield equal to 20% of your total health lasting for 20 sec. This effect cannot occur more than once every 90 sec.
I would have to say….for PVE – clear choice is Desperate Prayer once again. The guise has a more PVP feel, and the Angelic Bulwark may work in a few fights here and there but really if you know dmg is incoming, you should be preparing oneself, you are a disc priest!
Tier 5 – Healing Helpers!
Twist of Fate -After damaging or healing a target below 20% health, you deal 15% increased damage and healing for 10 sec.
Power Infusion – 20% casting speed increase, and a 20% cost in mana reduction. 2 min CD, lasts 20 seconds.
Divine Insight – (Discipline) When you cast Penance, there is a 40% chance your next Power Word: Shield will both ignore and not cause the Weakened Soul effect. (BTW the holy version of this talent looks a lot more interesting!)
As Disc…there should be only one talent here to choose – Power Infusion! Twist of fate….eh, not sure might be good in certain situations. Divine Insight – seems better for holy and shadow.
Tier 6 – OMG Shiny new spells!
Here I am going to refer to Tales of a Priest – very good read and lots of good stuff for priests!
Also Spirit Shield (baseline for disc priests) –
For the next 15 sec, your Heal, Flash Heal, Greater Heal, and Prayer of Healing no longer heal but instead create absorption shields that last 15 sec
Looks very powerful – you know some dmg is coming up. Pop and bubble away!
But other then that lets see how much of the patch breaks my UI! Hopefully, in SR, we will have the manpower to get a raid going on Tues and Wed to test out the new changes!
I for one have a lot of worries about the inital healing when MoP hits, all healers are going to have to get used to the “fixed” mana pool.
In trying to keep my promise to post more often, here is my responce to this week’s current topic from Blog Azeroth!
How has WoW changed your life?
For me WoW has changed my life in a few major ways.
1.) I met my current GF/squeeze/ball and chain via WoW! (Cheesy yes I know) She is my light, and also a smelly warlock! Lyssianna 😛 Before meeting her I was perfectly fine in being a bachelor for life!
2.) Also thanks to WoW I have met some awesome people in game that I may have never ordinarily have met! So my guildmates in Shadow Rising – here’s to hopefully a metric boatload of many wipes, wins, and picking on Sorak now and in the future!
3.) I would have never thought to put my thoughts into a blog format, although I dont get a lot of hits, it is quite enjoyable to write. 🙂
Hmmmm….I guess so….
Guess that is why I play Priests and pallys in WoW….
BTW gonna kick Sorak’s and Rep’s arse this weekend in a 7 person Magic draft. Innistrad block!
Caught the WoW bug again….having no computer for a week really makes one realize that you are missing out. 🙂
The new PC should be here today, so tonight I reinstall WoW and D3…yay more downloading…
Looking at the raid bosses for T14, I cannot wait to get to 90 and raid. Bosses look interesting, moreso then the snoozefest of Dragonsoul. (Maybe i should redownload the beta client as well..)
I really like their idea of 3 zones again for T14, breaks up the scenery and allows for more character in the raids. For the following tiers of raiding after 14, I hope they do not decide to do another Firelands 2.0 or a Dragonsoul 2.0.
The end of Wrath had a much more complete feel then Dragon Soul. For me, the end of Dragon Soul was very meh. Sure the cutscenes were cool, but did not have the same tension or thrill of the kill. Lich King kill > Deathwing kill. Blizzard has large boots to fill for MoP (storywise and boss wise), hopefully they can pull it off.
Things I am pumped for MoP
1.) Pet Battles – yes I said it, I like Pokemon!!!
2.) Yak mounts – nuff said.
3.) I giggle when I hear Lyssianna lament about the changes to Affliction – I guess I am kind of mean!
4.) Moogik is coming back!
5.) Monk healers 🙂 (Panda of course)
6.) Account wide cheevs and mounts!
7.) Black market AH
9.) Arv busting out the toys before a raid. /thumbsup!
10.) Fayle tanking the floor again! Well perhaps it will be Zugzuug now doing it lol.
Things that worry me about MoP
1.) Healing – just like at the beginning of Cataclysm, there will be a learning curve getting used to it, but from reading online, it doesn’t sound that bad. 🙂
2.) New dungeons to heal!
3.) New Tier gear…not too thrilled on the look of the sets, especially priests…
4.) OP Monk healers…but hopefully beta will get them sorted out before live.
5.) No flying till 90 – I admit I am lazy…
6.) P-A-N-D-A-S! – well Female pandas – I hope they get more then one facial expression…
7.) Warlocks – Sorry Lyssi…I can’t help but pick fun at locks!
8.) Story of MoP – Like Cataclysm, this is another expansion that does not have a “major” lore character, that lots of people recognize, as the “main villain”. Wrath had the Lich King, Burnig Crusade had Illidan.
9.) Fayle or Zug tanking the floor too much. 😛
10.) No Mr. GTL! /cry
My new current addiction – It’s addicting! Aitakatta 😛
Also once again thanks to catching the WoW bug I stumbled on a new awesome blog – Cymre! Check it out! Nice layout and awesome screenshots!
Rarely do I get interested in a topic but the “now and then” posts others have been posting intrigues me for some reason. Must be the history buff in me….
November 4th 2010 was my 1st “small” journey into the world of Azeroth. Being a fax on the Warcraft RTS games, a MMO intrigued me. Previously friends had tried to get me to play Everquest, but I resisted, although I did cave in and played FFXI a lot. At the time of WoW’s release, I was still heavily into FFXI. (sorry – Mithra and Taru > Goblins and Night Elves) Therefore, my initial foray into Azeroth was tainted I admit. Many of my friends in FFXI at the time did not have good things to say about WoW and WoW for (at least players on my FFXI server) was for the “kiddies”.
An old college friend had gotten the game and I rolled a forsaken on their server at the time. I think it was a Warlock….no wonder why I hate them so….
1st impression on WoW – laggy…..cartoony…..sooo many people where are the quest mobs….and I ahve to quest to level? WTF?!?!?! People don’t group up and grind down mobs for xp chains or skill chains? WTH?
In addition to the doomed Warlock, I think I also rolled a Tauren Warrior. With the warlock I recall traveling to Org to get sword training lol – melee lock! THe Tauren I used a gun to pull in stead of charging in lol.
I then quit after the 1st free month and went back to my catgirls. It was not till Burning Crusade when WoW entered my life again. BLOOD ELVES AND SPACE GOATS! /Waggle! Come on…I was in! Immediately rolled a Belf Hunter of course named Liyhe! And a Dranei Paladin named Adori…HATED the paladin….the hunter I was not to fond of as well for some reason, both toons only lasted till lvl 26 and I then quit WoW.
Not till 2009 or so, when I finally broke my FFXI bug I picked up WoW again….(wow must be “easy”) This time I was determined to see endgame etc. So of course I rolled a Belf and a priest, as it seemed closest to a White Mage from FFXI. Yes, I was a masochist, I leveled as Holy…..Smite ALL THE THINGS! Needless to say, I died a lot. This was back on Uther Server…I did join a guild there who did have aspirations to raid, but it was one of those who recruit via Trade…yeah was quite the cesspool.
As I got closer and closer to Northrend, I started to look up WoW blogs…it was this one Clearcasting that convinced me to apply and raid. I admit I was a fresh 80 in super bad gear…..but they took me in and it was a blast. It was right around that time the “infamous” dungeon finder came out…geared up raid ready in one day…..spamming heroics….from 9AM to 2AM… I was so tired….
Here is a pic I think from LK days…
As you can see Sorak is still a cow and we still have Del the tree man!
Somethings happened in SR (no need to chew on old soup bones), so I moved on for a bit and raided 25 man Alliance side for a while on Skywall in Choice – Choice. It was a blast, but looking for that Arcance Torrent button haunted me. AT > Blessing of the Naru. It is a definite difference going from 10 man to 25man heroic. When I joined they were working on Heroic Deathwhisper and Heroic Putricide…OMFG the wipes on Putricide…but the awesomeness when that punk went down. I got to raid with Kurn as well! Kurn’s Corner
Soon after that is back to SR, Liyhe was back to be a Belf! Woot! Sorry for the lack of SS as those are at the home PC. People have come and gone but, WoW is still going strong, TOR is in contention atm though lol. Through WoW I have met alot of awesome people, learned alot about the game from other people who blog etc. I guess the internet is not just for porn eh?
