So…Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 A Realm Reborn, I would have to say is a vast improvement over 1.0….
It is quite the beauty even running at normal settings. The default UI and party frames display quite a bit if info within them as well.
Most important to me, is it invokes feeling of playing FFXI again.
Will it make me quit WoW? Depending on the launch, I would have to say it might do it.
The pace of the game is definitely faster then XI but not as fast as WoW, the GCD is 2.5 seconds.
It definitely makes you explore a bit more (i.e. hunting lists, fishing, gathering)
Crafting is definitely a bit different and I definitely like the fishing and the gathering ideas. The actual crafting seems to have more depth then other crafting systems, as you level up you can do things to attempt a HQ synth or add back to your durability.
The Races…I would say are nice, but eh they are just window dressings. (I think I should have rolled human for once!) It is a nice to see some female galkas and male cat boys lol :P. well not really.
I did have a chance to run the 1st 3 dungeons (4 person groups). All three are quite linear in nature and not all that dificult if you have a brain. 😛
What I do applaud SE for trying to do was implementing mechanics even into the “learning” dungeons. They would vary from add control, getting out of bad, and listening to the envinronment.
The best fight I think so far in the “learning” dungeons was a fight against a large slime. The slime starts as being invulnerable to all damage. The party then has to hit a switch to spawn a bomb mob and let it explode on the slime. (Tank would have to watch to make sure boss is in the radius of the explosion and not to get hit by the explosion) Each explosion divides the slime smaller and smaller so eventually they can be killed. To add to this, adds will spawn that will attack the bomb, so the DPS has to kill the adds.
Also the jobs could have more depth but then again the cap is only 50 so we shall see once more content and expacs are done.
Screenshots to follow when I get home!
Stealing inspiration from my buddy Arvash!
In the new Mist of Pandaria expansion, Druids will be getting a new spell called Symbiosis, which will allow them to “trade” a spell with another player, based on the player’s class and combat role and the Druid’s specialization.
So my question is, if you could have any spell you want from any other class, current spells or new ones in MoP, what would it be? How would you work it into your rotation, gameplay, etc.?
The one spell for my Priest Liyhe would have to be a Battle Rez! It would be nice to have one, because lets face it, how many DK’s save up their runic power or how many people actually raid with warlocks? (They smell like imp poo!)
Other notable mentions:
Travel Form – but instead of a cheetah or a stag – a unicorn! lol
Healing Shrooms – but instead of making a smurf village – make a bunch of heretics burning at the stake!
Summon Ghoul/Demon/pet etc – Angels!
But to expand upon Arv’s initial question if I could have an ability from any MMO, it would be simple. From FFXI:
And it’s upgraded version:
I don’t really tank in WoW, it’s too much work! However, I did tank as a ninja in FFXI.
Now the ninja in FFXI originally was not thought out by Square Enix to be a tank. It the players who made the ninja into a tank.
Now to be a ninja tank in FFXI, you needed good gear, and the ability to time your casts well. If you were good xping was easy street, get a bad one and it was painful. A good one would only get hit maybe a few times here and there, a bad one was worth then a noob DK tank in Hellfire Ramparts.
It was simple, when you had both versions of the spell – Ichi – took about 4-5 sec to cast, Ni was almost instant cast.
1.) Prepull – cast Utsusemi:Ni – if you were main job ninja – you got 4 shadows
2.) As the mob s beating on you – keep track of how many shadows you have left, before the last one is gone, start casting Utsusei:Ichi so the last Ni shadow would go before Ichi finishes casting. But if for some reason the mob misses your shadow, or you dodge, one had to cancel the last shadow from Ni. Why you ask? Because Ichi cannot overwrite Ni, while Ni could overwrite Ichi shadows.
3.) While doing this you had to make sure maintain threat – by using your WS when poss, and other ninjitsu spells as needed.
Go to MMO-C or the main WoW site and check it out!
Like many other of Blizzard’s other cinematics – done very well.
Unlike the other’s there is no big baddie in this one, but this one still feel just as epic.
It does a good job conveying that this is about Pandaria and the new continent.
It also displays something we don’t see all that often in WoW, humor….definitely adds more of a “human” side to a game.
Also I know Rep will hit me for this one….but human’s in WoW actually don’t look silly for once. 😛
Shhh…there is a troll and a femtaur in disguise here….Also…mmmm fried chicken!
A lady rides this way? And before Slice is a girl comments! SHUSH!
And below….proof all elves are female? Aka eye candy for Lyss and Van…thought they might appreciate it…or perhaps Sorak as well. Or maybe even Arv!
Very old post…probably my first.
Looking over the list, lots of names are still in Shadow Rising, other have moved on etc etc. From there to now I have met a lot of great people in this game. It’s quite amazing how many people that are awesome one can meet. I know people on the internet are crazy in a bad way most of the time, but I have to say the people I have met in WoW are generally nice and awesome etc! /hug!
Zarigar – I originally wrote that I did not know much about him and he would not heal. I say now, Zari is probably one of the funniest people I have met. And is quite the healer, I think he has one of every healing type? The Original Mohawk troll!
Sorak and Zug – now I have met these them in reallife driving cross country and they are just as nice as they are in game! Awesome players and awesome people. People tend to pick on Sorak, I dont know why! Zug is quite at times but can also throw out a zinger as well.
Tel – although I dont see him much on WoW, tel is still also a very great and amusing guy. Sense of humor is very sarcastic, much like zari….must be a cali thing……
Lyssi – brat…..nuff said.
Rev, Ana, Log, Grom, Bo, Toxic – I know they are alliance and on a different server! But they are nice individuals, very amusing at times to see in a raid. Very generous and patient. If you need a guild alliance side on Winterhoof I strongly suggest Crits and Giggles! Nice people, laid back!
Adoe – Troll…moving on…but srsly, uber nice guy with a odd sense of humor at times, and questionable tastes in music….also has a lot of “odd” dates…..
Fahaala aka mage friend, shady – (i can never remember how to spell her name!) Also a sweetheart like Lyss. But shares in the normal odd humor of most people I associate with. Shady I feel sorry for ya….married to a troll and all.
Arvash – pet collector….cheev chaser….lover of pally dresses lol. Arv is an awesome guy, quiet at times but an all around awesome dude. Also throws out some zingers out there.
Repgrind – someone call pally anon for this girl lol! ….too obsessed with pallys!
I may have forgotten some peeps if have I am sorry! (typing from work!)
Rarely do I get interested in a topic but the “now and then” posts others have been posting intrigues me for some reason. Must be the history buff in me….
November 4th 2010 was my 1st “small” journey into the world of Azeroth. Being a fax on the Warcraft RTS games, a MMO intrigued me. Previously friends had tried to get me to play Everquest, but I resisted, although I did cave in and played FFXI a lot. At the time of WoW’s release, I was still heavily into FFXI. (sorry – Mithra and Taru > Goblins and Night Elves) Therefore, my initial foray into Azeroth was tainted I admit. Many of my friends in FFXI at the time did not have good things to say about WoW and WoW for (at least players on my FFXI server) was for the “kiddies”.
An old college friend had gotten the game and I rolled a forsaken on their server at the time. I think it was a Warlock….no wonder why I hate them so….
1st impression on WoW – laggy…..cartoony…..sooo many people where are the quest mobs….and I ahve to quest to level? WTF?!?!?! People don’t group up and grind down mobs for xp chains or skill chains? WTH?
In addition to the doomed Warlock, I think I also rolled a Tauren Warrior. With the warlock I recall traveling to Org to get sword training lol – melee lock! THe Tauren I used a gun to pull in stead of charging in lol.
I then quit after the 1st free month and went back to my catgirls. It was not till Burning Crusade when WoW entered my life again. BLOOD ELVES AND SPACE GOATS! /Waggle! Come on…I was in! Immediately rolled a Belf Hunter of course named Liyhe! And a Dranei Paladin named Adori…HATED the paladin….the hunter I was not to fond of as well for some reason, both toons only lasted till lvl 26 and I then quit WoW.
Not till 2009 or so, when I finally broke my FFXI bug I picked up WoW again….(wow must be “easy”) This time I was determined to see endgame etc. So of course I rolled a Belf and a priest, as it seemed closest to a White Mage from FFXI. Yes, I was a masochist, I leveled as Holy…..Smite ALL THE THINGS! Needless to say, I died a lot. This was back on Uther Server…I did join a guild there who did have aspirations to raid, but it was one of those who recruit via Trade…yeah was quite the cesspool.
As I got closer and closer to Northrend, I started to look up WoW blogs…it was this one Clearcasting that convinced me to apply and raid. I admit I was a fresh 80 in super bad gear…..but they took me in and it was a blast. It was right around that time the “infamous” dungeon finder came out…geared up raid ready in one day…..spamming heroics….from 9AM to 2AM… I was so tired….
Here is a pic I think from LK days…
As you can see Sorak is still a cow and we still have Del the tree man!
Somethings happened in SR (no need to chew on old soup bones), so I moved on for a bit and raided 25 man Alliance side for a while on Skywall in Choice – Choice. It was a blast, but looking for that Arcance Torrent button haunted me. AT > Blessing of the Naru. It is a definite difference going from 10 man to 25man heroic. When I joined they were working on Heroic Deathwhisper and Heroic Putricide…OMFG the wipes on Putricide…but the awesomeness when that punk went down. I got to raid with Kurn as well! Kurn’s Corner
Soon after that is back to SR, Liyhe was back to be a Belf! Woot! Sorry for the lack of SS as those are at the home PC. People have come and gone but, WoW is still going strong, TOR is in contention atm though lol. Through WoW I have met alot of awesome people, learned alot about the game from other people who blog etc. I guess the internet is not just for porn eh?
As Lyssi knows, I am quite excited about SWTOR coming out. Well today Bioware decided to showcase and give us more info on the companions.
1.) They have more personality then before, more customization, and romance if you are into that junk. 😛
2.) They will level up and gain access to special companion only talents/abilities.
3.) Besides changing physical appearences you can change their armor as well now.
4.) A lot more complex and intelligent then WoW pets it appears.
1.) this an MMO, not a single player console RPG
2.) more complexity is not necessarily better
3.) this is an MMO not a solo game….
The link also has an interview with it, Bioware says the game is fully playable, start game to endgame, and they are just focusing on getting bugs out of the system….cause they want to deliver a polished game…I really hope they do, cause all the bugs in DA2 sucked, although ME2 did not have the same issues. The more I see SWTOR the more excited I am to play, however, it can still flop like many other MMOs.
P2P MMO’s are really going to raise the bar to stay viable, against giant WoW or even rival upstart Rift. Another thing against big AAA P2P MMO’s is the f2p model is really becoming more and more popular, and lets face it maybe the future of MMO’s. Look at the ressurgance in people playing games like AoC, EQ/EQ2, or LoTRO. And look at the plethora of F2P games like Atlantica Online, Guild Wars, Perfect World, and League of Legends.
If F2P going to be the furture of MMO’S? It really does seem that way. The people with the disposable income who appear to be the main audience of MMO’s now, may have been hardcore and playing for hours at a time. These people now have grown older, gotten jobs, married, kids etc, they maybe looking for something they can pickup and play and leave alone for an extended period of time. If this is the case the F2P model is the more attractive model, pay for more feature one may want and worry about a recurring fee. It seems as an audience gets older, the more casual it may become as a whole.
Hell even take WoW now…lots of more features that the casual base have cried for years…Transmog! With WoW being as old as it is, Blizzard will have to decide what they want to do with the game. They will want to add more things to keep more casual players resubbing, also they may also need to take a look at the possible conversion to a F2P model as it gets older and older. Lots of blogs and lots of forum posts show…omg wow is so boring etc etc etc, is such a grind…A prime indicator…for a break or quit.
(however, lets face it, no matter what skin a MMO has on…it’s all the same formula: kill ten rats, level up, kill more rats, get more loots, boom kill dragons, more loots, kill demons etc, get more loots. The good ol’ purple carrot trap is in place for MMOs whether we like it or not. People are inherantly greedy and want more for themselves or even their own virutal avatar. Not much can realy be done to change the MMO formula, hell even for gaming in general. It’s variations on the same grind.)
