2 healing…a punishment?
2 healing is it a punishment for a job well done?
At times it does feel like it is…and I can understand that. You get thru the encounter for the 1st time 3 healing it, that is what one is used to, you can predict the amount of healing needed, you know someone(s) have your back, but there is still enough challenge to keep it exciting. 🙂 Then boom, you don’t have as much backup, your mana strains, and what worked in the past is no longer working.
I completely understand the “if it aint broke, don’t fix it idea” but if it aint working for a fight may need to change something. For some fight you can brute force it but others you cannot.
Looking at the rebuttal to Murloc Parliament – screaming monkies – where if you can 2 heal things, why not? Also the DPS can be doing all they can etc why not bring something to edge it over. However, bringing in someone who may not be used to a DPS OS maybe more of a hinderence then a help. They may mess up mechanics etc. (lol like i did on Baleroc – see 2 healing baleroc – also with 9 people I messed up quite a few crystal soaks)
Now I am not sure which strat they are exactly using, but both ideologies have there flaws and pros.
2 healing – more DPS, encounter ends faster. But allows for fewer mistakes. DPS have to avoid everything they can dmg wise.
3 healing – more room for error. Fights will take longer, poss might hit an enrage timer.
EDIT- Catgirls
I feel really hypocritical after forcing Log to gear his dps spec up, go dps, and all, but – I just don’t want to dps a fight. Kerick doesn’t either. So either one of us sucks it up or we just force Toxic or Share or whoever to dps, regardless of their feelings. Of course by the numbers Kerick and I are the stronger healers so it makes sense. But still.
I have my boomkin spec and I use it, and all, but I don’t like dpsing in raids and if that was what I was doing regularly I wouldn’t have as much fun. Am I wrong in thinking that changing from tank to dps isn’t as big a shift as heals to dps?
It’s pretty standard for a tank to carry a dps spec for fights that are one tankable. See: Magmaw, Atramedes, etc. from the former tier. What’s there to feel hypocritical about?
For some fights that’s not an option though, and then if you need more deeps and/or your healers are bored, then a healer can switch. As far as the shift goes … I think it just depends.
I think log would feel more comfortable DPSing then having a healer swap. 🙂 He seems to be picking it up quickly.
The role swapping doesn’t matter. It’s the player behind the character that does.
Just like anything, all it takes is practice. You may not be the Adoe of DPS, but you won’t be a slacker if you put in the time to gear up and get comfortable w/ your flex role.
As much as it pains me, I have to agree with Fayle here.
Why does this have a cat girls tag?
le sigh
you like it
Based on my extensive experiance at various roles in many raid encounters I would have to say that…. Cat girls rock.
What were we talking about again?
Rev understands…./nods sagely. He is truly one of the enlightened.
2 healing is just another way to burn through the content faster. What’s funny is of our 3 core healers, none of us has a DPS spec. (In a pinch the druid can go kitty even though she’s geared for tank) so when we drop to 2 heals it’s either because one healer can’t make it for the night or we pull in one of our DPS toons.
Being able to 2-heal gives us a lot more flexibility to work around people’s schedules.

And in our raid tonight, we went with three heals to take it easy and the other healers immediately were insulted. Can’t win.
