Now and then?

March 13, 2012 11 comments

Rarely do I get interested in a topic but the “now and then” posts others have been posting intrigues me for some reason. Must be the history buff in me….

November 4th 2010 was my 1st “small” journey into the world of Azeroth. Being a fax on the Warcraft RTS games, a MMO intrigued me. Previously friends had tried to get me to play Everquest, but I resisted, although I did cave in and played FFXI a lot. At the time of WoW’s release, I was still heavily into FFXI. (sorry – Mithra and Taru > Goblins and Night Elves) Therefore, my initial foray into Azeroth was tainted I admit. Many of my friends in FFXI at the time did not have good things to say about WoW and WoW for (at least players on my FFXI server) was for the “kiddies”.

An old college friend had gotten the game and I rolled a forsaken on their server at the time. I think it was a Warlock….no wonder why I hate them so….

1st impression on WoW – laggy…..cartoony…..sooo many people where are the quest mobs….and I ahve to quest to level? WTF?!?!?! People don’t group up and grind down mobs for xp chains or skill chains? WTH?

In addition to the doomed Warlock, I think I also rolled a Tauren Warrior. With the warlock I recall traveling to Org to get sword training lol – melee lock! THe Tauren I used a gun to pull in stead of charging in lol.

I then quit after the 1st free month and went back to my catgirls. It was not till Burning Crusade when WoW entered my life again. BLOOD ELVES AND SPACE GOATS! /Waggle! Come on…I was in! Immediately rolled a Belf Hunter of course named Liyhe! And a Dranei Paladin named Adori…HATED the paladin….the hunter I was not to fond of as well for some reason, both toons only lasted till lvl 26 and I then quit WoW.

Not till 2009 or so, when I finally broke my FFXI bug I picked up WoW again….(wow must be “easy”) This time I was determined to see endgame etc. So of course I rolled a Belf and a priest, as it seemed closest to a White Mage from FFXI. Yes, I was a masochist, I leveled as Holy…..Smite ALL THE THINGS! Needless to say, I died a lot. This was back on Uther Server…I did join a guild there who did have aspirations to raid, but it was one of those who recruit via Trade…yeah was quite the cesspool.

As I got closer and closer to Northrend, I started to look up WoW blogs…it was this one Clearcasting that convinced me to apply and raid. I admit I was a fresh 80 in super bad gear…..but they took me in and it was a blast. It was right around that time the “infamous” dungeon finder came out…geared up raid ready in one day…..spamming heroics….from 9AM to 2AM… I was so tired….

Here is a pic I think from LK days…

As you can see Sorak is still a cow and we still have Del the tree man!

Somethings happened in SR (no need to chew on old soup bones), so I moved on for a bit and raided 25 man Alliance side for a while on Skywall in Choice – Choice. It was a blast, but looking for that Arcance Torrent button haunted me. AT > Blessing of the Naru. It is a definite difference going from 10 man to 25man heroic. When I joined they were working on Heroic Deathwhisper and Heroic Putricide…OMFG the wipes on Putricide…but the awesomeness when that punk went down. I got to raid with Kurn as well! Kurn’s Corner

Soon after that is back to SR, Liyhe was back to be a Belf! Woot! Sorry for the lack of SS as those are at the home PC. People have come and gone but, WoW is still going strong, TOR is in contention atm though lol. Through WoW I have met alot of awesome people, learned alot about the game from other people who blog etc. I guess the internet is not just for porn eh?

Heroic Ultraxion

Ok….this fight is easy on paper.

For those who have passed this boss on Heroic…how do you get people to improve on their hitting heroic will in time….that is the issue holding us back. Hitting that damn button! Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We tell people to watch the cast bar, etc etc. Not sure what else out there can help people – besides baby sitting people.

Anyone else feel that Cata, more specifically Tiers 12 and 13, have been soul crushing?

Tier 11 – ooooo new raids! new gear! new bosses and 3 zones to playin!

Tier 12 – the raid environment does not feel epic, some of the boss fights were interesting, overall kind of too short as well.

Tier 13 – same raid size as Tier 12….with recycled environments….some wait…no interesting fights (well maybe spine).

I hate to admit it, I had more fun raiding in Wrath then I did in Cata. I cant quite put my finger on it but I guess I had something more to idenify with in killing the Lich King. Deathwing did nothing for me….sure he is a big bad evil dragon….but meh.

With MoP news coming out soon, I hope this will help brighten things up. But I really like the group of people our raid contains, if not for them I probably would cancel the account for WoW.

I feel like many others who have been playing MMOs for a while – you cant go back. I look back on FFXI kindly and wish in many ways MMOs were still old school. Where servers mattered and community mattered. I admit I like larger raids. But with recent times – convenience > old school things in my opinion. Companies are looking for their biggest gain and things like LFR, dungeon finder make it easier to get into MMOs. Smaller raids – lets face are easier to organize. Large raids are going to be a thing of ancient times.

Now in ToR….healing as a Bounty Hunter…I am not a real fan of it. It’s tool box for healing feels like it is lacking something. All it really has it direct heals, no real oh crap button to speak of. Slow cast heal, medium cast, and really freakin cast heal. Slow heal – no CD, medium heal – 9 sec CD, fast heal – 20+ sec. Besides that there is a AOE missle healing spell thingee…max targets it can hit is 3…..small puddle on the ground which is supposed to heal people much like a druids spell…but I dont think it works properly. And it also looks like bad on the ground lol. Gear grind in TOR just like it is in WoW, so its quite easy to get geared up.

Healing in ToR feels like healing at the behinning of Cata for a fresh 50. Leveling up a Sorc to heal as it…cause they get bubbles, and from what I can tell a more diverse healing selections. MIxture of direct heals and some HoTs (per Sorak – so take that with a grain of salt)

Best thing about lvling in ToR is the story telling for the class quests, love them! The dialogue for the normal quests….not so much blech.

After the Sorc I will work on an imperial agent i think, or maybe make some more jedi! The good side. Why couldn’t SR be jedi and not stinky imps…..

It’s been a while….

So it really has been a while. I guess I should get around to posting that 6th screenshot thing, but no SS here at work.

But in the MMO world:

WoW – is the same. Clearing DS easily in one night now. Starting to work on heroics slowly now that the TOR fever seems to have calmed down a hair I think. Morchok down, onto Ultraxion!

Lots of new info for MoP in the form of talent trees…..still can’t wait for some real info.

ToR – Jedi Consular is still 25. On the Sith side – Bounty Hunter finally hit 50! Popped open a few champion bags got an earpiece and some token, so bought an offhand healing gun? (healing gun lol) Got some upgrades running heroic Boarding Party and Foundry and a few epics off the AH. Healing in ToR….definitely needs some mouseover macros. Also….just like in WoW Cayle is go go go go lol! No time for breathing….

Anyways…..back to work!

Ugh Heroic Beth, such a tease!

November 3, 2011 1 comment

Now I am not certain that these are the exact spawn points but anyways.

Skull are the spawn area of the spiderlings and the engorged spiderlings. Triangle is the designated primary soaker – (Adoe) Moon – would be the backup – Me (liyhe) and Zerl.

1st soaker would try to get as many as they can – I attempt to heal and soak with Zerl as needed.

Watch out for the pools of crap the engorged adds leave, it hits like a truck and slows you.

Rest of the DPS on the ground kills spinners and then drone. Try to kill drones ASAP, try not to let them go up. Spinner’s must be taunted down ASAP so they do not channel a long stun on you.

With the drones, on heroic, they do gain a new ability to fixate on someone (while fixated they do 75% less dmg to the targte) person targeted will want to face away from the raid.

Add kill order is the same as in normal – Spiderlings > spinners > drones. The primary individual soaking the engorged ones should be able to handle the spiderlings for the most part.

The Team going upstairs has nothing change for them, except more dmg to them.

For p1 it seems adds control is paramount to victory.

for p2 – samething as in normal. Don’t let her eat any spiderlings when she lands.

SR pulled her a few times last night, best attempt was 22%. ><

So we need better add control, heals need to be better, we lost a DPS to stupid stuff, and making sure spiderlings die before she lands and we have her in the bag.

So close, anyways she will go down next week! Along with H Alysrazor. :)

5.0 Priest Talents

October 24, 2011 12 comments

Blizzcon 2011 has come and gone. I know others are hating it (*cough* Zerl) and others are loving it.

5.0 MoP will bring about lots of changes – from QoL changes to revamping the talent tree.

Others are saying it is making the game easier while others are optimistic about the changes. For me overall, I am pleased with the annoucements at Blizzcon. Sure I can see that the new system is dumbing down the game to an extent. However, overall WoW is not only about the raiders. Cata for me was raiding ONRY. MoP appears will be raiding, some PvP, some Pokemon, some other things to improve oneself in other than raiding expansion. In otherwords it will bring more balance and QoL improvements for citizens of Azeroth. And also PANDAS are awesome…must be the Ranma 1/2 fan in me and the Chen Stormstout fanboy in me. MoP will be more about doing then sitting in Org or SW waiting for your Queue.

Going back to the talent trees, players will still pick their “spec” at level 10, and then a talent point at 15 and every 15 levels their after. Many abilities/former talents will be baseline for the class.

Seeing I am a priest I will take a look at the Priest talents.

Level 15 – Tier 1

Priest Tier 1 – CC Tier?

Void Tendrils – sounds much like the druid roots spell.

Psy fiend – pet emits psychic scream to an enemy with 40 yds – every 2 sec for 10 sec. Interesting.

Psychic Scream – just like the original.

Overall for me, a meh tier. All of them have their uses perhaps while lvling – the Tendrils being the biggest one. Overall more use in PvP. PvE priests I bet will be picking the Tendrils. Because we all know unglyphed Psychic Scream is bad in PVE.

Level 30

Priest Tier 2

Body and Soul – 30% more speed over the current version and the loss of a free cure disease.

Path of the Devout – 25% more speeds while levitating.

Phantasm – removes movement impearments when casting fade etc.

Once again meh – each point has it uses in PvP and PvE. PvE priests I assume will be picking Body and Soul.

Level 45

Priest – Tier 3

From darkness comes light

Surge of Light (caster form)

Smite, Heal, Flash Heal, Greater Heal, Binding Heal have a chance to trigger a free Flash Heal (6% chance)

Surge of Darkness (shadow form)

6% chance when you mind flay to cause your next mindblast to be free and consume no shadow orbs.

Divine Star

Fires a star that will travel 20 yard, enemies in the path will be damages and allies in the path will be healed. It will then travel back to the caster and do the samething.

Archangel

Interesting 2 min cooldown now. or is 30 for archangel and 90 sec for dark?

Archangel is pretty much the same but no more mana regen.

Dark Archangel – now uses shadow orbs instead.

Around level 45 is where things get interesting. Right off the bat I would have to say From Darkness comes light is meh.

Archangel is still cool, but if we have to smite for it, I am not sure how many will go for it, I myself run no AA/A spec.

I being the anime dork will prob pick Divine Star for shits and giggles. As Analogue and Reversion from Looking for More stated. MOON PRISM POWER! Hell yeah Sailor moon time!

Level 60

Priest Tier 4

Desperate Prayer – like the current one. It’s not bad if you remember to use it lol.

Angelic Bulwark – increases shields used on yourself.

Final Prayer – places a shield on you when an attack knocks you below 30% the Shield str is 20% of your total health.

Overall, priest survival cooldowns/abilities/talents….all decent choices. With the stronger ones being Desperate Prayer and Angelic Bulwark. Final Prayer to me – seems to more of a PvP thing or for those who are forgetful to use Desperate Prayer/Healthstone/Potions.

Level 75

Priest Tier 5

Twist of fate – increases damage and healing done to target at or below 25%

Power Infusion – same as current.

Serendipity is now combined with Mind Melt when in Shadowform.

Overall I think this Tier a no brainer for Disc and Holy – Power Infusion. Twist of fate is interesting from a healing perspective, with depending on your healing comp this may not be needed. Besides the odd huge raid wide hit…how often is the raid at below 25%?

Level 90

Priest Tier 6

Vow of Unity – kinda like Beacon of Light. Whenever you heal your target you are healed for 20% of the amt. Furthermore, 50% of the damage the target takes you take over 6 secs. Also when the target takes a hit that is greater then 30% of their life the Vow ends.

Void Shift – Yuo swap Life totals with target and then healed for 25% of your total health.

Vampiric Dominance – when you deal damage or heal – 15% of the amount is healed to 3 low health allies.

Tier 6 wooo~ I personally like the idea of the Vow of Unity and the Void Shift. For Shadow Priest the Vampiric Dominance is awesome, possibly also useful for Smite Priests.

I see myself trying out the Vow, combined with a Desperate Prayer or even pre-emptive shield with Angelic Bulwark and other shield str abilities. the Vow could be quite awesome. But if assigned to raid healing the Vampiric might be better. Void Shift has so many choices but will have to be timed…dont want to waste a LoH and Void Shift. Also soooo many trolling opportunities with it…..*evil grin*
