Ok I know we are not the fastest raid group ever (Damn real life getting in the way of raiding!)
I am not going to complain sticking to the plan of getting used to one instance seems to be working out for our group.
Also, there is no “raid leader” in this group. I tell people, “Hey go watch this and learn it NAO!”, but people do not really need an explanation. There is no need for the most part to tell people to move.
People will also call themselves out if they get frozen, people move by themselves with or without a verbal cue. Although, we may still say something on vent, people really don’t seem to need it. They learn and play it seems to instinctively act.
Sometimes I wonder at time if a “raid leader” is needed? With a group like SR, I dont think so, but if this was a 25 man group then yes.

1 shot – the 4 stooges…one silght hiccup, but we made a nice recovery and powered thru. This fight is proving to be definitely 2 healable.
Security Measure Alpha Grats to me!
Poison Protocol Pauldrons Grats to Moogik!
Killed in the 2nd attempt. *stares at Sorak* lrn2chain worm
I admit I am almost tempted to try to 2 heal this next lockout. People are now avoiding bad they can and mitigating what they can. Worms are dying faster and faster, and with the addition of Moogik, aka the fluffy one, the Typhoon pushback was very nice indeed.
Symbiotic Worm Grats Dubstein
Scorched Wormling Vest Grats Zarm!
Down on the 5th try. A few small mistakes here and there caused the wipes, the 1st phases is all on the healers, so if a raid member dies from something a Caustic Slime + Massacre….I admit its a healers fault. Other then a few healing oops and other weird mishaps he went boom!
On this fight assigning poeple to groups helps out a lot, also assigning your cooldowns for the feud phases helps out a lot.
For the 1st feud we used 1 Tranq and 1 Divine Hymn, I slso threw down Power Word:Barrier (glyphed for the extra 10% healing).
2nd Feud – I threw the barrier and Divine Hymn and the 2nd druid used their Tranq.
Also during the 2nd feud is when we used the healthstone etc.
For both Feuds, anyone who can heal should help out healing. DPS uses bandages etc. Paladins should pop Divine Radience and Divine Protection if spec’d into it.
Manacles of the Sleeping Beast Grats again Zarm
Chimaeron Armguards Grats Roor!
The thing that amused me most on the kill attempt is this dialogue.
Me: 2nd feud coming up….tranq?
Zarm: Not up…
Zarm: x seconds
Woo~! 2nd night of attempts, down on the 2nd try. Great job all! Interrupting the 1st add spell, and letting the next 3 go thru I think helped lessen the dmg on the OT. This fight the dmg on the MT and OT is not bad, and as long as the raid avoids the dmg it can…this fight I feel is 2 healable.
Dragon Bone Warhelm Grats Droslice!
Treads of Flawless Creation Grats Sorak!
Mail boots in BH dropped as well as did a BoE sword (from Trash). both went to GB i think.
For the remainder of the raid, took some potshots at the Puff the Blind Magic Dragon, for our 1st initial attempt, got him down to 69%. I will not complain, his fight does not seem as bad as it sounds. Clean up a few items and boom! I think for this I will have peopke swap out to the Boot Enchant Earthen Vitality for the movement speed buff, in addition to whatever ability that may have, this will help on Atramedes flame breaths.
I will admit last night, I was a bit riusty on the strat, I had read it earlier but was still a bit unsure, I guess when it comes to this game, in game experience is better then wathing/reading a strat…for me at least.
Nefarion….on the other hand….looks kind of nuts.
1st off…this made me happy!
Circle of Healing Radius
This information is actually incorrect. In addition to Circle of Healing receiving a 30% healing buff, its radius (around the target) is also being increased from 15 yards to 30 yards in patch 4.0.6.
Also with the huge buff back to Power word:shield and improved Power Word Shield…it maybe time to make the offspec…disc…bubble priest back into the fray?? Other bloggers have been saying it is getting better. I may have to try it out again.
Also to copy my friend Del! Bovine Edition
1.) yes, Runescape sounded tedious and stuff, it has nothing on FFXI.
-prior to even getting to the old level cap of 75, one 1st had to complete the subjob quest. You then had to go back and level the appropriate subjobs to your mainjob.
-So if you were a white mage, you would need to get Black Mage, Red Mage, Summoner, Scholar to 37.
-Another pain was if you wanted to level and advanced job: Ninja, Paladin, Summoner, Samurai, Ninja, Ranger, Beast Master, Bard, you had to get to level 30 in a normal job and then go back and unlock the appropriate advanced job via a quest. The quests varied from easy to freakin annoying.
-You lost XP when you died…so you could dlvl.
-Crafting…no 100% chance for a skill up. A wonky system on who to get HQ items made, and if you failed you lost materials.
2.) I hate snow. But I hate hot weather.
3.) Magic!!!!! The gathering that is…Mirrodin 2.0 looks sweet! Magic!
Consecrated Sphinx looks sick as does Thrun the Last Troll.
“Am I ready for Heroics?”
Item Level 329 – check, dungeon enterences found – check, Ready to Faceroll – check!
no, no, no, no, no.
You are sorely mistaken my friend if you think you can just wander in like that….
General guidelines for preparing for a heroic!
1.) Make sure you spec is up to date! (no lvling specs please!)
2.) Have a general idea of what to expect in the instance, this will save you and your guildmates or PuGmates a lot of time and headache.
3.) E-R-G. Enchant, reforge, gem as approp!
4.) Remember patience, it will save you in the long run.
5.) If you need to CC, remember to watch it, also do not break it as well. If you need to CC, use it. Mobs have inflated health pools and for the most part are a mixed bag of mob types, with various abilities and mechanics which can faceroll your 5 man group!
6.) If you have a means to heal yourself, try it out and save your healer a GCD.
7.) Don’t stand in bad. bad = death in many heroics now. (Forgemaster’s fire shield in Grim Batol, Corobus’s tunneling ability, standing in harvesting etc.)
1.) Food, Flasks, Potions. These are your friends in your initial trips into the waters known as Heroics. These can help make up the weak spots in your gear and help your healing as well.
2.) Review your spec and know what does what. (Wuuuu I haz lolwell?) Make sure your group understands your abilities and uses them! (DROPPING LIGHTWELL! DPS THAT IS YOUR ONLY HEALING USE IT!!! *cracks whip*) Lifegrip errr Leap of faith – watch out when you use it. Seems like if you are trying to save a tank, and the mob has a cleave…be careful!
3.) Patience…especially if healing a PuG group.
4.) E-R-G! – this maybe especially even more important for a healer – especially when first starting to run Heroics. The extra stats help out a lot!
5.) Break the habit of trying to top people off. The Wrath days are gone! 50-75% for DPS is the new 100%
6.) Don’t stand in bad and don’t try to heal stupid.
But what about stats???
This will vary from player to player but this is what I found out for my priest.
I would say getting around 1800-2000 spirit will help out your regen, where you may not be gasping for mana every pull.
70K+ mana should be ok as well. More the merrier!
Oh yeah having a mostly guild group helps out as well.
I have now had the chance to run a few more Heroics with the guildees, and I have to admit kudos to Blizzard on the difficulty and challenge of healing them.
To date I have run Grim Batol, Stonecore, Throne of Tides, Deadmines, and Vortex Pinnacle (a portion of it). the LFD tool only seems to like these Heroics lol.
I have to say Heroic Grim Batol can be brutal on a new group, and a new healer.
The “gauntlets” in Throne of Tides can quickly sap a healer’s mana pool.
Deadmines….actually is not too bad. Trash/bosses are easier than the other Heroics in my opinion, but Deadmines hands down is probably the funnest one. Great RP, setting, and characters.
(Now I have only run these as a guild group, so I cannot speak of the horrors or pain that it is dealing with PuGs. Also I am a holy priest now, I have turned away from the cult of the bubble and have seen the light(well))
All I can say is mana regen helps a lot! Many of these fights will last sometime, so having as much mana regen as you can help out, but make sure you still have the stats to throw out worth while healing.
Also make sure to use all tools available to you to help out with incidental dmg, the days of just topping people off are gone.
I will admit, I was did laugh at the idea of the Lightwell, but now it is an invaluable tool in my healing tool set. My guildees have learned to use it and watch for it. Precast it before a fight, it doesn’t pull aggro. This will help people see where you have placed it! Make sure to have a macro for it as well, to announce that you are placing it down.
Learn the fight and expect when heavy dmg is incoming. People having a hard time getting to a safe spot. Cast a bubble on them for the speed boost from Body and Soul. Or hell Life grip em errr Leap of Faith. (I was a real hater on this…but I admit, in certain situations it has been useful as hell!) Heavy tank dmg, get some serendipity stacks ready. Cast your Greater Heal after the Holy Word: Serenity for that extra crit chance. Also remember you LOCK imp poop…errr LOCK CANDY. Saved my butt more than once.
Don’t be cheap, enchant, reforge, gem. A.K.A. E-R-G
If you are having a hard time with a heroic, maybe its time to look into ERG. Or perhaps stop hoarding that JP and buy some gear, or look into Reputation vendors.
But foremost to remember is: knowledge is power, use it. There are many sources out there to get info from, no excuse not to use it.
Also remember to have FUN!
Cata is now into week 2, more people are now 85 and hitting the dungeons.
I think my gear is ok…a few pieces here or there could be better, but theoretically I could jump into Heroics.
What is stopping me from jumping in head first?
1.) The few normals I have run as a healer were guild runs and the 1 random, I did had a group of people accustomed to the new Cata style and things went smoothly. Other than that, the horror stories about the LFD pool is making me think the headache and repair bill is not worth it. (Mine own experience in Heroic Deadmines with a PuG tank….needs more booze)
2.) The healing style I grew to love in Wrath, just does not cut it. Discipline – does not have the punch to keep things in check. If something goes wrong, someone stands in bad “by accident”, mobs CC gets broken, and people get face owned…..Disc does not have the same oomph it had to push things through. Disc is all about dmg mitigation, and the main source of this PW:S is not longer viable due to a couple of things. A.) mana cost and B.) it gets popped so easily now.
You maybe thinking, “But Slice! Prayer of Healing now procs DA 100% of the time!” Sure it does…but the with the actual amount that PoH heals…the bubbles it creates…they do not absorb all that much.
Power Word: Barrier and Pain Suppression are a very sexy spell duo indeed. But again even with these cooldowns…you are still lacking in the HEALING DEPT.
1.) Heal seem meh….
2.) Flash Heal….can heal for a lot, but will leave you sapped.
3.) A Borrowed Time + Greater Heal can be nice…but still will leave ya gasping for mana.
4.) Prayer of Healing – DA procs yay! But still not a super amount of healing when shit hits the fan.
Disc at this time, is not working for me at least. At the higher gear levels it may be a viable choice for me, sure I could do it right now, but why struggle. Better stats mean stronger bubbles, less pain being lovingly showered on your group!
3.) Lots of member of SR are either on vacation, getting to 85, or gearing up for heroics.
Lamenting the loss of me bubbles, I have committed apostasy. I have went away from Discipline and rejoined the Choir of the failangels….aka Holy.
And wow…Holy IS A FREAKIN blast to play now. The different Chakras and make playing a holy priest a fun monster to play. The modification to Holy Word: Chastize depending on which chakra state you are in is a great idea. You need AoE? cast Holy Word: Sanctuary?
Need a harder hitting single target heal spell which also increases the chance for healing spells to crit? Look no farther then, Holy Word: Serenity!
The hurdle with Holy is the Chakra swapping and that takes a few minutes to get accustomed to, but once you get the handle of it, it plays out quite nicely.
Also this talent in the Holy Tree is soooo win, it really helps out with mana regen (while in combat) so much.
P.S. This talent has just been buffed today to increase the amount of mana regened from 20% fully talented to 40% fully talented. Sorry I need a new towel
Although, the amount regained from Rapture has been increased from 2.5% to 6%…it is still really low when compared to Holy Concentration. Also rapture can occur only once every 12 seconds.
But at this point, appears Liyhe the bubble priest, will now be Liyhe the failangel, defender of the lolwell.
Are you going to head straight and smite evil?
Or are you the money type and will sit back, level some professions and let the others fight first?
Maybe perhaps you will start over from level one once the Cataclysm hits? Playing a Alpo fueled Worgen, or a crafty lil’ green skin? (WAGHHHH!!! errr wrong game) Epic-haired Blood Elf Warrior, or a Sun touched priest or paladin?
Perhaps you will take a walk in your enemies shoes and swap faction? For the emperor….errr the alliance! (I had to slip in a Imp. Guard or Space Marine reference in there!)
I know myself, I will be walking the path of getting to 85 as fast as I can and raid ASAP. (Liyhe – sigh, no break for me!)
For my other toons, I think I will slow it down and take my time to see what the new Cata zones in their entirety.
On a differnt note: I am glad to see some of the changes in the world, it brings life back to an otherwise, totally under utilized portion of Azeroth. It was a very good idea on Blizzard’s part to being it back to the “old” school world. Bring back the Warcraft universe back to its origins: Orcs vs Humans. (Horde bs Alliance) Things were getting a little too buddy buddy. Eventually it may have to be that way, but for now, this is a good way to get back to the original conflict. (although, Garrosh still needs to DIAF!)
I don’t know how to describe it. I still like WoW and raiding, but maybe I am getting healing burn out?
Ok dmg incoming…heal, heal, bubble, bubble. Heal, heal, bubble, bubble.
Holy Paladin Healing
/flails about. Holy Paladin feels awkward and not as satisfying anymore. /huddles in the corner and laments the loss of the “old” Holy Light.
Every fight in ICC (with exception of LK) is predictible and healing them are not “challenging” anymore (heroic modes are another matter, and no Lootship does not count). The feeling of danger and OMFG moments are not there anymore. (I guess that is the price of outgearing content). I still enjoy healing a lot, but the thrill is gone.
I find myself liking DPS more and more. Maybe i will get a ret spec again for my pally. What I really want is a rogue or a ranged DPS…hmmm maybe it is time to lvl one or two.
So how was your WoW week after the 4.0 patch?
Like many others, like every major patch my UI was in ruins….no wait….it was a molten mess of primordial goo.
No DBM AHHH, panals all in the wrong places, millions of errors/bugs all over.
Thank goodness for those addon elves as the UI appears to be ok now. There are a few errors here and there, but the UI is not angry at me.
Going from Grid to VuhDo for my paladin and priest was weird….more so on the priest then the pally.
For my priest and pally I had gotten very accustomed to the look of Grid and the way I had it setup. With the patch and Grid being blah. I loaded VuhDo (I use VuhDo on my Druid, and prefer it to Grid). With the pally I got very comfortable to using VuhDo.
The issue for my paladin is getting used to have more toys to play with. Word of Glory, the OMG AoE heal spell (do not recall the name), and the big bomb (Divine Word). Also sad…Holy Light is just soooo meh. The shorter ranged judgement was weird as well. Also Crusader Strike??? huh??? Holy Power??? I just have to remember to use the holy power at times.
With my Priest…zomg it took sometime getting used to VuhDo. I have to say it is nice with VuhDo that it has built in Clique for your needs. The biggest thing to get used to for me was the different icons for PW:S and Weakened Soul.
Alas for the priest…getting used to the new changes to Borrowed Time (I had to reforge some gear to drop some crit and get some haste) and new abilities blah! I am not a fan of heal…its slow and don’t heal crap (sounds familiar…kinda like Holy Light). Power Word: Barrier – looks like a giant yellow nipple on the ground. LOL. Overall….Disc seems clunky and unwieldy.
The new glyph system is money. I am a big fan of it. About time.
It also seems that to me at least that – tanks don’t seem as durable???
No Cata beta invite for me and I am too lazy to make a toon on the PTR.
So what does that leave me…good ol’ talent calculators.
For the 1st Tier
Improved Power Word: Shield – 2/2 – no brainer! Shields that absorb more damage…yes, please!
Twin Disciplines – 3/3 – more damage and healing, ok sure.
Mental Agility - 3/3 – with everyone saying mana is going to be an issue, anyway to conserve mana sounds like a good idea.
*Now this is where I do not like the choices contained within*
Evangelism…..I elected to choose 2/2…not sure how I am going to like this, but when pared with Archangel – an extra way to gain mana back…seems like a good idea.
Inner Sanctum – 1/2 – with the smaller trees, not filling out seems like a an ok thing to do.
Soul Warding – 2/2 – Reduced cooldown PW:S…if you need to ask why to take this….delete you toon.
Renewed Hope 2/2 – extra chance for a crit on targets with Grace and Weakened soul? Hell yeah. Sounds like this may help with tank healing.
Power Infusion – 1/1 – love it.
Atonement – pass.
Inner Focus - 1/1 – Reduction on mana cost and extra crit. sure
Rapture – 3/3 anyway to get mana back is going to help. Take it.
Borrowed Time – 2/2 – 14% spell haste after casting PW:S…another no brainer.
Reflective Shield – pass. Appears to be for PvP.
Strength of Soul - 2/2 – anyway to get that evil weakened soul debuff, yes please. Combined with the above Renewed Hope…sounds like nice synergy.
Divine Aegis - 3/3 – More damage mitigation, More bubbles!!!
Pain Suppression – 1/1 – more damage reduction, why thank you!
Train of Thought – 2/2 – I did take full ranks on this…but not sold on it. Will see how it works out.
Focused Will – pass. PvP oriented it appears.
Grace – More healing – sure why not!
Power Word: Barrier – 1/1 – Sounds like a good idea to me…you did choose disc for damage mitigation, not HPS right?
For the remaining 7 Points I placed them into Holy.
Empower Healing – 3/3 – more healing sure…why not.
Divine Fury - 2/3 – did not take full ranks as with Borrowed time – seems silly.
Improved Renew – 0/2, probably could take this instead of Divine Fury.
Inspiration – 2/2 – more damage mitigation!!!! yay! This should be a no brainer.
Glyph of Penance – lower cooldown on the coolest healing spell, don't twist my arm.
Glyph of PW:S – a little healing on top of bubble. ok!
Glyph of PW: B - 10% healing to people under the barrier, oh heck yeah!
Kinda slim pickings…
Divine Acc – with Evangelism, why not.
Levitate – HEY I AM LAZY, bite me!
Now I know this is for 85….what about 80 when the patch hits hmmm..
Something like this would work IMO.
No it is not a stop light signal.
Depending on your add-on of choice (Grid, Healbot, VuhDo) your colors may vary, indicating levels of health.
In a perfect setting, one should be able to heal everyone back up to that green level….well what if that was not a viable option to you anymore?
Like many others have written, healing in Cata will be more of “triage” method of healing.
Our almost endless pools of mana in WoTLK will no longer be endless, and over-flowing.
Instead of seeing a nice verdant plane of green boxes…we may see more of this instead….
not pretty I know. Healers are going to have prioritize which heal to use and when to use it. In addition, to who will be healed and who may die……
1.) Obviously – keep your tanks alive
2.) Yourself – dead healers don’t heal
3.) Other healers – see #2
Don’t get me wrong there maybe times when you will need to heal a DPS over another healer possibly. But remember don’t waste the mana on the DPS who will not play along…you know the type!
To prepare for this shift in healing, what can you do now?
1.) Get used to the idea….people will not always be sitting at full health.
2.) Get familiar will all the spells at hand. Also when to use what, when.
3.) Practice canceling casts as well. (we may need to do this, to conserve mana)
