Anyone else feel that Cata, more specifically Tiers 12 and 13, have been soul crushing?
Tier 11 – ooooo new raids! new gear! new bosses and 3 zones to playin!
Tier 12 – the raid environment does not feel epic, some of the boss fights were interesting, overall kind of too short as well.
Tier 13 – same raid size as Tier 12….with recycled environments….some wait…no interesting fights (well maybe spine).
I hate to admit it, I had more fun raiding in Wrath then I did in Cata. I cant quite put my finger on it but I guess I had something more to idenify with in killing the Lich King. Deathwing did nothing for me….sure he is a big bad evil dragon….but meh.
With MoP news coming out soon, I hope this will help brighten things up. But I really like the group of people our raid contains, if not for them I probably would cancel the account for WoW.
I feel like many others who have been playing MMOs for a while – you cant go back. I look back on FFXI kindly and wish in many ways MMOs were still old school. Where servers mattered and community mattered. I admit I like larger raids. But with recent times – convenience > old school things in my opinion. Companies are looking for their biggest gain and things like LFR, dungeon finder make it easier to get into MMOs. Smaller raids – lets face are easier to organize. Large raids are going to be a thing of ancient times.
Now in ToR….healing as a Bounty Hunter…I am not a real fan of it. It’s tool box for healing feels like it is lacking something. All it really has it direct heals, no real oh crap button to speak of. Slow cast heal, medium cast, and really freakin cast heal. Slow heal – no CD, medium heal – 9 sec CD, fast heal – 20+ sec. Besides that there is a AOE missle healing spell thingee…max targets it can hit is 3…..small puddle on the ground which is supposed to heal people much like a druids spell…but I dont think it works properly. And it also looks like bad on the ground lol. Gear grind in TOR just like it is in WoW, so its quite easy to get geared up.
Healing in ToR feels like healing at the behinning of Cata for a fresh 50. Leveling up a Sorc to heal as it…cause they get bubbles, and from what I can tell a more diverse healing selections. MIxture of direct heals and some HoTs (per Sorak – so take that with a grain of salt)
Best thing about lvling in ToR is the story telling for the class quests, love them! The dialogue for the normal quests….not so much blech.
After the Sorc I will work on an imperial agent i think, or maybe make some more jedi! The good side. Why couldn’t SR be jedi and not stinky imps…..
Now I am not certain that these are the exact spawn points but anyways.
Skull are the spawn area of the spiderlings and the engorged spiderlings. Triangle is the designated primary soaker – (Adoe) Moon – would be the backup – Me (liyhe) and Zerl.
1st soaker would try to get as many as they can – I attempt to heal and soak with Zerl as needed.
Watch out for the pools of crap the engorged adds leave, it hits like a truck and slows you.
Rest of the DPS on the ground kills spinners and then drone. Try to kill drones ASAP, try not to let them go up. Spinner’s must be taunted down ASAP so they do not channel a long stun on you.
With the drones, on heroic, they do gain a new ability to fixate on someone (while fixated they do 75% less dmg to the targte) person targeted will want to face away from the raid.
Add kill order is the same as in normal – Spiderlings > spinners > drones. The primary individual soaking the engorged ones should be able to handle the spiderlings for the most part.
The Team going upstairs has nothing change for them, except more dmg to them.
For p1 it seems adds control is paramount to victory.
for p2 – samething as in normal. Don’t let her eat any spiderlings when she lands.
SR pulled her a few times last night, best attempt was 22%. ><
So we need better add control, heals need to be better, we lost a DPS to stupid stuff, and making sure spiderlings die before she lands and we have her in the bag.
So close, anyways she will go down next week! Along with H Alysrazor.
What is it about randomness that I dislike.
1.) lack of control over an outcome
2.) no direction
Lack of Control/no direction/chaos
With my personality, I dislike anything that takes control from my hands. I dislike a direction or focus, and choas is never fun when trying to figure things out.
Those three reasons alone make the Rhyolith fight, normal or heroic versions, a real pet peeve. I appreciate Blizzard for their design of the fight, but those reasons alone take away any fun in the fight.
What one can control is the direction he moves and one can predict when the adds will spawn.
Which volcano is active vs inactive is a pain. This is not fun, much like RNG loot drops. Other bosses, which may pick a random player to do something, is not bad and not as annoying, but for some reason the volcano thing really irritates me.
Other fights in firelands so far are designed much better in my opinion. They are some degrees of randomness, which thru player interaction can help overcome it. Walking a giant into volcanoes is freakin annoying. Other boss mechanics which are random are short and not the major drive in the fight. The volcano activating is the entire freakin fight, it’s like fighting a giant slot machine. Randomness is not a good drive in encounter design, and vice versa neither is a fight that is easy to predict everything. Some element of randomness/chaos is needed.
4.3 PTR thoughts
I am not one for looking aroud in there, but reading the thoughts of those who have, I have to say I am positive about the encounters so far. Mixture of scripting and randomness with some uniqueness here and there. One thing I am not positive about is the length of the raid. 7 bosses? This is not enough to keep people entertained, engaged till the next expansion.
With SWTOR right around the corner, Blizzard will want something MORE to keep people engaged. Like others I have spoken to, I would hope Blizzard is planning a Sunwell type raid to keep people in WoW.
With other games on the horizon, WoW will need to do something if it wishes to be the dominant force in the MMO world. It cannot sit on it’s haunches for too long (which I feel EQ did) or change the same to something that people may not want to play (EQ2) . With games ilke SWTOR, GW2, The Secret World, etc. and the whole F2P model Blizzard needs to do something more.
I think Blizzard is doing something good with listening to the player’s wants (like transmog) but they need to do some more quality of life improvements. The transmog idea is really an old idea – games like Aion and LOTRO already have it in some form.
I know Blizzard does not like the idea for some reason but Player/Guild housing would so something to keep people in the game. Keeping people engaged by giving them something to take pride in an develop is a good idea. Endgame characters are more then “purplz”. Having them do quests, maybe PvP or other things to earn points or something to purchase things to decorate or allow them to make trophies of memorable fights would be a nice QOL addition. I know in FFXI, players had a moghouse to decorate and although I was not super crazy about it, I did take pride in at least decorating it. It was also cool that SE listened to players and allowed people to invite friend to visit your moghouse.
F2P vs Sub – blizzard really needs to keep WoW somewhat fresh to combat the F2P model. games that have swapped to a F2P model – Age of Conan and LOTRO I have to admit are done quite well. Lots of QOL things to keep casual to hardcore people involved and a non-intrusive cash shop.
WoW needs more QoL additions to it – not just more purplz and raids. MMOs are not a console game, it is an interactive social game, and that is what Blizzard I feel has forgotten when seeing the $$$ signs. Sitting around in Org/SW is not the best way to treat is’s customer base. Also relying on it’s popularity as it being “Warcraft” is getting old for many.
I know when it comes to lore, game mechanics must go beyond lore. What gets me is all the lore they tend to ignore.
Why not do more with faction leaders? Why are they stagnant figureheads….if i wanted that you could hire Waldo for that. Why are there not scenarios designed involving them more? I know there are some not feeling the PvP, but for those that are why not on PvP servers have a daily quest to kill faction leaders? (Could still be on PvE servers as well) Taking it a step further, to make sure the enemies capital is weakened (i.e guards) why not make it if the enemy faction capture certain certification on route to a city the # of guards/their str is weakened/while providing a buff to the attackers? Also design more BG with an empahsis on faction leaders, give them a chance to show their stuff.
Also with lore…why are not more things taken from lore? They are doing some things with the new 5 mans in 4.3, but why not expand upon the titans? Queen Azshara? Hell, I know we are all sick of Trolls – but what about Zandrazi or however one spells that.
As much as I am a horde at heart, where is the alliance love? Why nothing for dranei after BC??? Where is the alliance influence? Specifically on the human front…..I admit when playing the RTS I loved playing the humans. Where is the pride of the humans…why are they hiding behind the flag of SW, there are still some human nations out there, and where is the last heir to Lordaeron? Arthas’ sister? They brought back Gilneas…where are the others…. >< SW cannot expect to be the last bastion of humanity, there were so many other ones out there.
And most importantly – USE high overlord Saurfang more! He is much more badass then Garrosh. I understand the need for him, but he is nothing like what I imagined the “true” orcs from Nagrand would be. Sure they are more primitive etc, but they are not warmongering fools….
I am not for bringing back Thrall as Warchief - he did what he had to but is more of a character to bring about bigger things for Azeroth, but I am not sure Garrosh is quite right. Likewise, develop someone for the Alliance to along the lines like Thrall. Varian could have done it, but is too much like Garrosh, Jaina is too whiny, Greymane too old etc. The Alliance really needs a big personalilty that could draw the alliance together like thrall did for the horde. The alliance is too much disjointed to make a real push against the horde if all out war happened. The Alliance is too full of distrust with one another IMO, and again they do not have a shining star to say like Thrall.
Again WoW suffers from too much biasness, much like Warhammer did imo.
But enough rambling – H Rhyolith going down tonight!
No not one of these – Firebird
One of these Firebirdy
Once again reading a writen strategy and watching a video, really does not prepare one for the shell shock of the real thing.
Just reading it, the fight does seem straight foward. Kill adds, don’t stand in fire, kill boss. It just seem in phase 1, those mages casting pryoblast are the #1 main reason people are getting destroyed.
The 1st time I have seen in Firelands, where we are a having a detriment by having so many ranged last night. In fact, last night all our DPS was ranged. So interrupts were far and few in between.
But once we get the fight down, I do not think things will be an issue. Getting there will take sometime.
Our makeup for last night was
Tanks: Prot Pally, Blood DK
Heals: Holy Pally, Resto Druid, Disc Priest
DPS: 2 MM hunters, 1 survival hunter, arcane mage, aff lock
Anyone have any pointers on this crazy evil bird?
I have seen people 2 heal this, to free up an extra DPS slot, to sending only 1 person up in the air etc etc.
Overall in the Firelands, I cannot really complain! We knocked off the 1st 4 bosses relatively easy! I just need to improve my stack building ability for Baleroc. (Van at one point was 96k HPS lol. Probably was the LoH)
Maybe its a little burn out or perhaps just summer blues? But looking at WoW….is Cata really as great as we all thought/hoped it would be?
Looking back, overall, I did like the feel and look of the new zones….but it does seem something is missing…Oh yeah a story…..while leveling thru Northrend you know you would be seeing LK and many things tied to him or he even made an appearence. I think Deathwing makes one appearence, rag makes 1, and so does Cho’gall, the questing areas can be done very quickly.
Another thing as people who have been playing WoW for a lot longer then I….many fights recycle samethings over and over again. Packaged as a new fight, but in reality it is not.
Sure I still get pumped about doing the fights, but once the excitement is done and fights analyzed ( how well we did, where we did wrong), they are still all too similar.
Magmaw – reminds me a lot of Marrowgar. At times heavy tank dmg, with periods of heavy raid damage, and adds (bone spikes) which need to die.
Omnotron Defense System – Northrend beast 2.0. A fight involing numerous bosses with differnt abilities to avoid.
Maloriak – For some reason reminds me of Lord J. Kill adds, burn boss, avoid bad, dispel buff (remedy), spell steal buff, etc etc etc.
Chimaeron – Anub 2.0. Only heal to a certain point. Burn.
Atramedes – Sindy…avoid bad stuff when she is in air. Avoid big bad spell (searing flame/and her drawn in ability). Avoid the circles of sound, avoid killing your raid with engulging magic.
Comes down to it…too many fights are too similar….Firelands looks to be a little different. (but then again how much can one change a fight to not make it too similar…I dont think there really can be a “unique” fight)
Also http://i.wow.joystiq.com/2011/06/09/patch-4-2-fandrals-flamescythe-turns-feral-cats-fiery/ – FIRE CAT! Must be mine. Screw legendary staff. HAWT CAT! (RANDOM THOUGHT OF AWESOMENESS)
Do we have the “b” team on wow now?
With Diablo 3 on Blizzard’s plate, their new codenamed game, expansions for Statcraft 3….is Blizzard’s “B” team on WoW? To be honest I would not be surprised.
Look at the horrible bugs that came with Dragon Age 2′s release…how did they miss those bugs…how did quality control miss that? Did Bioware once again take the “A” team and place them on SWTOR and Mass Effect 3? I would not be surprised….
Seems like that it maybe the case with WoW as well. Months for a new raid….4.1 was meh. Once we get 4.2 what is next? The Abyssal Maw stuff? Oh wait…that was supposed to be with release, just like the firelands were supposed to. So instead of giving stuff they would have early, they are going to pre-package and say hey new stuff for joo. However, in reality, it is late dinner for us. 4.3 and on better be brighter and MORE awesome…or it will really show they put Team B on work for WoW and are just trying to milk WoW for all its worth.
I knew this would happen….Call to arms….there are poeple in there who should not be tanking…see Pulling a slice! also there are people in there hoping with the increase in healers and tanks in Heroics…hey maybe they can drag my gimp ass through. F THAT!
You know that moment of dread one gets when you zone in….NOT AT THE BEGINNING of an instance….
1.) Either everyone is dead and running back
2.) The DPS have more health then the “tank”
3.) The tank/DPS say omg a healer….
Zone in…..ok looks like they have killed the 1st ogre dude….great!
Get to them…..inspect em all….
The tank appears to be ok, some non enchanted stuff but appears to know their stuff and it positive.
Hunter appears to be wellgeared….cant pull more then 6k on trash….on the robot boss….lets not go there….
Rogue is ok, decent gear and good numbers.
WARLOCK – WHY ART THOU ALWAYS THE BIGGEST FOOLS, that and DKs…..
Lock appears to have some JP gear and the crafted epic belt…..they are destro, ok great. Look at their DPS…..4-5k at one point 6.6k….
How can hunters and locks be so fail…..
Get to Ripsnarl….everyone asks….how does this fight go……./facepalm.
I reply “Kill boss, when adds come, kill adds, then back on boss.”
Lock ooms about 75% into the fight and stands there to regen mana and than RAIN OF FIRE ONE 1 target! Then goes back to picking nose. No life fap, no wanding….this was the 1st time I was close to letting someone die…..
Rogue pewpews boss…
I think the tank and i killed most of the adds….and i am HOLY Pally….
OK Ripsnarl eventially dies….onto Cookie….”eat food as needed, balance good food with bad etc etc” “k” We go….lock stands in bad and dies from food AoE…as does the hunter, as does the rogue, as does the tank….yeah i dropped after that.
People….WoW is not hard.
Don’t give me that I only want to have fun…or I don’t want it to be like work…..
Let me put it this way…if you play console games, or board game, D&D, or card games….you have to learn the rules to play…you have to advance oneself somehow….how is that any different from putting a little elbow grease into WoW….THERE IS NONE!
That is great and all, but don’t waste my 12.95 a month with your fail. If you want to run Heroics, make sure you can at least perform to the level of mining monkey. Otherwise I am pulling a Slice once again.
That is what I thought after reading about Blizzard’s “fix” to the DPS Queue time.
(yes, yes I know a lot of others have written up responces to this)
*cough* Anyways, no matter what game you play, be it MMO, or traditional Pencil and Paper RPGs, the “tank” and “healer” to DPS issues always seems to show up like an bad case of crabs.
The inherant issue of a “trinity” system bottlenecks players into a system where you need “X” amount of this to proceed.
To prevent DPS and Healers getting killed, there is usually a role or class which will stand on the front lines. These roles draw the attention and ire of enemies so the healers and DPS do their jobs. this job is dirty, at times difficult, and does not bring any glory. That unfortunately, goes to the DPS. There are tactile means to measure DPS, but there is no way to effectly show oh boy, good job Mr tank.
In this world of meters and gearscore, all people see are DPS #’s. Hell look at the site StateofDPS.com. (Sure there is a healing portion to it as well, but HPS does not mean effective healing all the time.)
Another issue in this world of Cataclysm, Wrathbabies (I know this term is degrading and generalizes, however, when used is specific ways, it can represent a feeling or playstyle), is the mentality that Wrath brought upon. The GOGOGO, pull the whole instance, AoE things, push one heal spell thing. For a guild group I can say one can do this, but when dealing with the grab bag, LFD , more then likely you cannot do this. For some off reason, people in LFD still think this can be done.
Lack of comminication, etc brings the LFD tool to its kness in Cata. Hell I don’t even want to use LFD as a healer, and I think I am a decent healer.
Another reason as to why this “fix” is meh, is that it punishes people for playing a role they ike to play, DPS. All I can see is this bringing about stories of princess healers, or snobby tanks lol. Sure if you are a hybred you can take advantage, but how many people actually know how to play an off-spec well? (Not too many I would imagine.)
Also with the grouping of servers to form the LFD tool….the anonymous nature of it itself also makes it a dangerous beast. With no reason to be patient, polite, etc. The random grabbag iof players can make for a bad mixture of players, with varying levels of skill, politeness, and patience.
Does Blizzard want people to know every aspect of the class? (by allowing LFD even in lower levels) Good I applaude them for doing so. However, the way in which they have setup the game does not show it. Using a primarily, quest based system, one does not have to group up with people prior to the “end levels” showing there is no way to teach someone their class. (also people don’t want to listen to advise etc, and many don’t have the patience to teach.)
Sure you can group up in lower levels, but how many times have those turned into people facerolling the dungeon and pulling packs of mobs….
(I know many players do not want to “grind” their way to endgame, but at least with “grinding” you did have to know how to play. You cannot just hit random buttons and hope to win. I personally think playing FFXI for 6 years taught me how to play. And for many of those who may have played even older MMOs understand how to group. Furthermore, by pulling from a random group of people, there is no way to “weed” out the baddies. When I played FFXI, if you were a “baddie” you were doomed.)
I think until there is a way to teach people how to play from the get go, and fix players overall attitudes, the pain of the LFD will never be fixed. Furthermore, unless there is ever a way to get away from this “trinity” system, players will always be plagued by this. There always seems to be a shortage of tanks and healers when compared to DPS. Why play the support when you can be the slayer?
Yup…THIS IS BLAAAACCCKKKKWINNNNGGGG!!!
*cough* Anyways…1st real night of putting attempts against the Draconic Ray Charles of Azeroth.
15 attempts in all, with the closest attempt being 13% or so. (Not bad at all!)
Overall I would say we did ok, it was the small silly mistakes which caused the kill to slip from our grasp. Unfortunately, with Atramedes, a silly mistake usually means you are dead.
Some of the blaring ones that come to mind.
In the ground phase – the gong has to be hit at the right time when he is attempting to cast Searing Flame. One second to late and its a wipe. Remember its a 2 second cast. Also when Sonic Break target gets picked all need to have better awareness about who is getting targeted. (Remember target RUN TO THE RIGHT!)
In the air phase – Don’t stop moving. Stopping = death. Need to get better to annouce when they need the gong assistance. Also if the designated gong striker dies….we need to better aware of who needs to pick it up if they go down.
Oh well, he will die next time. I am sure of it!!
Why is it that the annoying dragons seem to give people issues. (Sindy I am looking at you!)
But to those who have downed him? Is it better to have more ranged for this fight. My thoughts afterwards make it seem it favors ranged in this one at time. In the air, melee cannot do much. Also from what I could tell the silly dragon would not always target the raid member with the highest sound? Is this a bug?
Also if you have not read…check up on the notes from what has been found out about 4.1.
How do you do it?
Does your guild use the sacrificial lamb method? (one brave raid member stand out to eat the pillar) And then kill the adds?
Or does your guild have everyone move in between 2 “camps”?
Or do you have an Off tank handle the adds?
Each method has its pros and cons I would have to say.
Not quite sure what to do at this point….the OT method seemed to work for us but issues to work out.
I admit I am a bit irked DPS cannot kill them fast enough? Maybe cause I have not played a DPS seriously. But burst or not….why cannot DPS kill them still? If they get close…move away and DPS them from a safe distance again….Pillar of Flame is on a 25 second timer….25 secs….that is a long time in my opinion.
People signing up and not showing up…..
People signing up and not coming prepared……
People not using consumables…..
The list goes on, but I dont want to step on people’s feet/egos/feelings.
