So…Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 A Realm Reborn, I would have to say is a vast improvement over 1.0….
It is quite the beauty even running at normal settings. The default UI and party frames display quite a bit if info within them as well.
Most important to me, is it invokes feeling of playing FFXI again.
Will it make me quit WoW? Depending on the launch, I would have to say it might do it.
The pace of the game is definitely faster then XI but not as fast as WoW, the GCD is 2.5 seconds.
It definitely makes you explore a bit more (i.e. hunting lists, fishing, gathering)
Crafting is definitely a bit different and I definitely like the fishing and the gathering ideas. The actual crafting seems to have more depth then other crafting systems, as you level up you can do things to attempt a HQ synth or add back to your durability.
The Races…I would say are nice, but eh they are just window dressings. (I think I should have rolled human for once!) It is a nice to see some female galkas and male cat boys lol :P. well not really.
I did have a chance to run the 1st 3 dungeons (4 person groups). All three are quite linear in nature and not all that dificult if you have a brain.
What I do applaud SE for trying to do was implementing mechanics even into the “learning” dungeons. They would vary from add control, getting out of bad, and listening to the envinronment.
The best fight I think so far in the “learning” dungeons was a fight against a large slime. The slime starts as being invulnerable to all damage. The party then has to hit a switch to spawn a bomb mob and let it explode on the slime. (Tank would have to watch to make sure boss is in the radius of the explosion and not to get hit by the explosion) Each explosion divides the slime smaller and smaller so eventually they can be killed. To add to this, adds will spawn that will attack the bomb, so the DPS has to kill the adds.
Also the jobs could have more depth but then again the cap is only 50 so we shall see once more content and expacs are done.
Screenshots to follow when I get home!
Support Classes…I miss playing one. If I am not mistaken EQ had them, FFXI had them, why do a lot of MMOS drop them?
1.) Probably cause they would not do well in a PVP setting?
2.) Game mechanics are not designed with a support slot in mind.
But there is something said to have a good support class.
In FFXI, i miss being the Bard – you really had to know the range on your songs and how to hit approp party memebers with approp spells. Also at time know when to heal heal with /whm subjob, or pull mobs with /nin.
Tanks – depending on your tank for the group – you could get double Mage’s Balled for the Paladin tank. Or Attack song and acc song for a ninja tank. Attack song x2 or attack and acc song for DPS. Magic DPS/Healers would get Mage’s Ballad. Sleeping adds as needed.
Ahhh it was always something to do.
Makes me sad there is nothing in WoW for such a role. Having a bard to fill in buffs a raid maybe missing. Helping out the healer in a time of need, and keepin mobs CC’d.
/random post is random!
Finally got Open Beta to install…only took a few hours…once it was done it took like 1 hr to play…damn betas.
Anyways only got to play for about an hour. The charater creation is nice. Just enough to make me happy, but not so much (*cough* Aion) to make it overwhelming.
Made a Seeker of the Sun Miqo’te Pugilist…punching things to death ftwmfw.
Bleh as with beta…things are laggy, not graphically, rather poss UI. Seems ok for now….graphics are amazing. But graphics does not make a game.
Naughty NPC’s…soliciting PC’s…
More SS when i get home.
