Pre MoP checklist and Shared Topic

August 8, 2012 5 comments

With the MoP release date being old news, I have been thinking what are somethings I would like to get done in a pre-MoP Azeroth.

1.) Get the new hunter to 85 (currently 80) and hopefully with some decent gear.
2.) 10000 HK on my priest! (almost there!)
3.) Get the baby Shaman to 85 (currently 82)
4.) Level up the new Alliance Warlock with Lyssianna! I forgot how much “weaker” one is without Heirlooms!
5.) Once 5.0 hit, get the SR crew together for a raid test run to play with the new talent system.
6.) Get in on some RBG action with Navimie!
7.) Maybe some 2s or 3s in arena? Big maybe here.
8.) Play more beta when I can.
9.) Blog more often….
10.) More exercise!!!!!
11.) Check in on Blog Azeroth more often and check out the shared topics section.

And for the current Shared Topic!

“Are you playing the MoP Beta? Why or why not? How much time are you spending there vs. the “live” servers.”

I admit i have not played as much beta as I could. Been spending more time on live then beta.

Why?
1.) I don’t like losing progress.
2.) I sort of want to not have all of MoP spoiled for me.
3.) NO ADDONS
4.) Takes away from time I could be getting stuff done on Live.
5.) Can’t make gold that I can keep!
6.) Things change on the beta.

Why I should play more beta:
1.) More familiarity with MoP system of talents.
2.) Know the best path to level faster.
3.) See more of Pandaria!
4.) Pet Battles!
5.) It’s something different!
6.) Get used to MoP healing.

……

Anyone else feel that Cata, more specifically Tiers 12 and 13, have been soul crushing?

Tier 11 – ooooo new raids! new gear! new bosses and 3 zones to playin!

Tier 12 – the raid environment does not feel epic, some of the boss fights were interesting, overall kind of too short as well.

Tier 13 – same raid size as Tier 12….with recycled environments….some wait…no interesting fights (well maybe spine).

I hate to admit it, I had more fun raiding in Wrath then I did in Cata. I cant quite put my finger on it but I guess I had something more to idenify with in killing the Lich King. Deathwing did nothing for me….sure he is a big bad evil dragon….but meh.

With MoP news coming out soon, I hope this will help brighten things up. But I really like the group of people our raid contains, if not for them I probably would cancel the account for WoW.

I feel like many others who have been playing MMOs for a while – you cant go back. I look back on FFXI kindly and wish in many ways MMOs were still old school. Where servers mattered and community mattered. I admit I like larger raids. But with recent times – convenience > old school things in my opinion. Companies are looking for their biggest gain and things like LFR, dungeon finder make it easier to get into MMOs. Smaller raids – lets face are easier to organize. Large raids are going to be a thing of ancient times.

Now in ToR….healing as a Bounty Hunter…I am not a real fan of it. It’s tool box for healing feels like it is lacking something. All it really has it direct heals, no real oh crap button to speak of. Slow cast heal, medium cast, and really freakin cast heal. Slow heal – no CD, medium heal – 9 sec CD, fast heal – 20+ sec. Besides that there is a AOE missle healing spell thingee…max targets it can hit is 3…..small puddle on the ground which is supposed to heal people much like a druids spell…but I dont think it works properly. And it also looks like bad on the ground lol. Gear grind in TOR just like it is in WoW, so its quite easy to get geared up.

Healing in ToR feels like healing at the behinning of Cata for a fresh 50. Leveling up a Sorc to heal as it…cause they get bubbles, and from what I can tell a more diverse healing selections. MIxture of direct heals and some HoTs (per Sorak – so take that with a grain of salt)

Best thing about lvling in ToR is the story telling for the class quests, love them! The dialogue for the normal quests….not so much blech.

After the Sorc I will work on an imperial agent i think, or maybe make some more jedi! The good side. Why couldn’t SR be jedi and not stinky imps…..

Ugh Heroic Beth, such a tease!

November 3, 2011 1 comment

Now I am not certain that these are the exact spawn points but anyways.

Skull are the spawn area of the spiderlings and the engorged spiderlings. Triangle is the designated primary soaker – (Adoe) Moon – would be the backup – Me (liyhe) and Zerl.

1st soaker would try to get as many as they can – I attempt to heal and soak with Zerl as needed.

Watch out for the pools of crap the engorged adds leave, it hits like a truck and slows you.

Rest of the DPS on the ground kills spinners and then drone. Try to kill drones ASAP, try not to let them go up. Spinner’s must be taunted down ASAP so they do not channel a long stun on you.

With the drones, on heroic, they do gain a new ability to fixate on someone (while fixated they do 75% less dmg to the targte) person targeted will want to face away from the raid.

Add kill order is the same as in normal – Spiderlings > spinners > drones. The primary individual soaking the engorged ones should be able to handle the spiderlings for the most part.

The Team going upstairs has nothing change for them, except more dmg to them.

For p1 it seems adds control is paramount to victory.

for p2 – samething as in normal. Don’t let her eat any spiderlings when she lands.

SR pulled her a few times last night, best attempt was 22%. ><

So we need better add control, heals need to be better, we lost a DPS to stupid stuff, and making sure spiderlings die before she lands and we have her in the bag.

So close, anyways she will go down next week! Along with H Alysrazor. :)

4.3 discussion

September 14, 2011 8 comments

1.) Are nerfs good for the maintenance and happiness of the overall population in WoW?

Business Slice: Of course it is! Getting the majority of the people to see the content Blizzard has worked on makes perfect business sense. Which will net a company more money? 6-7 million customers or 2-3 “hardcore” players, of course the more casual base will make Blizzard money in the long haul. Without profit Blizzard cannot make improvement/develop more games. It’s all about the benjamins! MONEY MONEY MONEY!

Red Slice: RAWR! REDSLICE SMASH! WTF! WHY ARE THEY NERFING IT MAKES NO SENSE, 4.3 is not even out, or has any concrete information etc. Why are they caving into the whiners and baddies? Why even make a game and make it so easy? With the nerfs it may even make the most casual of player go…why am I playing a game this easy? This makes Hello Kitty Online seem more difficult. 4.2 have been out only for a few months, it only has 7 bosses, why make it so laughable that it can now be cleared by a new group in a week or 2 at most? /smash! WTH are they passing out epix 2 every1?

Slice: It would make more sense to have a balance of the two. They really should take a good look at what is over tuned and also what maybe under tuned and fix as appropriate. No real reason as well to nerf Heroic modes, those should remain as the pinnacle of raiding. Only the best of the best should be able to tackle those. Give the general player base the normal modes, and the heroics to the “hardcore”. Give them each a playground to play in. A flat nerf to the content in general is silly – make the players get a gradual buff (like in Icecrown Citadel) this allows for some mistakes to be made, but does not trivialize the content totally, this in coordination with appropriate hotfixes of mechanics that are under tuned and over tuned.

However by nerfing stuff by this degree so far from the 4.3 patch…I hope it does not cause a backlash that they will nerf 4.3 so quickly cause, “it’s too hard!”

2.)Should I cancel my sub and wait for DW/4.3?

Business Slice: No! Give me your money errr to Blizzard. You need your WoW crack no?

Red Slice: Yeah that will teach them to nerf stuff that doesn’t need it! “/grumbles” Freakin casuals!

Slice: Each individual should decide if they wish to play right now or wait. Use your brain and make your own decision.

3.)Transmogrify?

Business Slice: $$$ more ways to keep people attached to an older game! Good idea to pull at people’s heartstrings.

Red Slice: Old content? LOL…why go back there? It’s not relavent. Why waste time on old raid when you can raid current content or cap VP? Old cheevs? Only ones that matter are ones that are current and give you mounts that are current!

Slice: Yay for clothes! Barbie time?

4.) Catgirls?

All: HELL YEAH!

Catgirls!

2 healing…a punishment?

September 13, 2011 14 comments

2 healing is it a punishment for a job well done?

Murloc Parliament

At times it does feel like it is…and I can understand that. You get thru the encounter for the 1st time 3 healing it, that is what one is used to, you can predict the amount of healing needed, you know someone(s) have your back, but there is still enough challenge to keep it exciting. :) Then boom, you don’t have as much backup, your mana strains, and what worked in the past is no longer working.

I completely understand the “if it aint broke, don’t fix it idea” but if it aint working for a fight may need to change something. For some fight you can brute force it but others you cannot.

Looking at the rebuttal to Murloc Parliament – screaming monkies – where if you can 2 heal things, why not? Also the DPS can be doing all they can etc why not bring something to edge it over. However, bringing in someone who may not be used to a DPS OS maybe more of a hinderence then a help. They may mess up mechanics etc. (lol like i did on Baleroc – see 2 healing baleroc – also with 9 people I messed up quite a few crystal soaks)

Now I am not sure which strat they are exactly using, but both ideologies have there flaws and pros.

2 healing – more DPS, encounter ends faster. But allows for fewer mistakes. DPS have to avoid everything they can dmg wise.

3 healing – more room for error. Fights will take longer, poss might hit an enrage timer.

EDIT- Catgirls

Firebirds….

July 21, 2011 9 comments

No not one of these – Firebird

One of these Firebirdy

Once again reading a writen strategy and watching a video, really does not prepare one for the shell shock of the real thing.

Just reading it, the fight does seem straight foward. Kill adds, don’t stand in fire, kill boss. It just seem in phase 1, those mages casting pryoblast are the #1 main reason people are getting destroyed.

The 1st time I have seen in Firelands, where we are a having a detriment by having so many ranged last night. In fact, last night all our DPS was ranged. So interrupts were far and few in between.

But once we get the fight down, I do not think things will be an issue. Getting there will take sometime.

Our makeup for last night was

Tanks: Prot Pally, Blood DK
Heals: Holy Pally, Resto Druid, Disc Priest
DPS: 2 MM hunters, 1 survival hunter, arcane mage, aff lock

Anyone have any pointers on this crazy evil bird?

I have seen people 2 heal this, to free up an extra DPS slot, to sending only 1 person up in the air etc etc.

Overall in the Firelands, I cannot really complain! We knocked off the 1st 4 bosses relatively easy! I just need to improve my stack building ability for Baleroc. (Van at one point was 96k HPS lol. Probably was the LoH)

Beth down!

Evaluations

Criticism – always a nasty subject to think/talk about.

Why are people dying?
Why are tanks dying?
Why are people DPS low?

Of course the best tool to use in a parse, like World of Logs. But when in the middle of a raid and you dont have time for in depth analysis, what are you to do?

for a general snapshot look at recount and combat log it will tell you some info at facevalue. DPS, deaths, etc.

With this use your past epxerience in coordination with the mechanics of the fight.

If you know you have killed a boss before and have an idea of what your dps did before, that should give you an idea.

For example, when we killed Beth’tilac the 1st time I had an idea on what the DPS should be doing for a 2nd kill. So whan we went back and we were having an issue….you have to tell them…pick it up. Guess what…they did and what do you know a kill!

People may get defenseive when you ask of this…you will get responces (we are doing all we can or so so did this) or no responces.

You know what (this is going to sound mean) – DPS your main role is pew pew and not to die from dumb. Do what you can do to maxumize your dps, that is your role. You don’t have to worry about dying from boss hits, you do not play whack a mole with life bars. You don’t for the most part really have to worry about anything…many mechanics so far you cannot interrupt (there are a few notable exceptions) you just have to worry about going at full steam.

Also if healing is not working, take yourself out of that role. For me I was failing up on top of the web this week. For some reason, things were not clicking, sent my druid up there and boom.

Don’t be afraid to make changes.

Healers – if people are dying, nothing I can except is know the mechanics of a fight better, learn to anticipate dmg and movement of DPS and/or tanks. Know when to inately use a cooldown, learn the flow of a fight, also don’t LoH cayle. :P

Healers also like tanks should know the fights well prior to heading in. (then again everyone really should know how a fight goes.)

ok…why did i die healers!! tanks…remember you can control the ebb and flow of a fight. It is their decision on moving a mob or not moving, etc etc that can make or break a fight. Once again, tanks (in my opinion) should know the fight in and out BEFORE even tanking it. they should note when they should be moving, which mechanics to use to the raids advantage etc. They are the generals/kings of the battlefield.

For a tank – World of Logs is not going to be super helpful. But remember to know your cooldowns, what your specs particular weekness maybe, and don’t be afraid to take lead and go with it. Communication is key as a tank!

With that being said, I do not hate DPS, tanks, or healers. They all have to work together to achieve a kill. And I am not trying to say one role is easier then another…well maybe perhaps…dps…and that may get me in trouble.

All in all remember to have fun and this is a game…but i guess i take more seriously then others. :)

4.2 priest loot! (Disc flavored) guess should work for holy as well :)

June 27, 2011 11 comments

Sorry to our Holy brethren….not too sure about Holy anymore!

Stats

Int > Spirit > haste/crit/mastery – for 10′s is what i aim for (but tailor to your own preference, I prefer more haste and mastery. However with the change to crit in 4.2…crit is an interesting change.)

Head/Helm

Appears we only have 2 choices here…

First off is our T12 Helm – Cowl of the Cleansing Flame – T12 Helm

Not too bad. int/stam/spirit and a RED sockets and a nice socket bonus. mastery of 229. Not sure I would reforge anything on the helm.

2nd choice is more suited to out DPS friends out there…

Flickering Cowl – Blarg random enchant

Also random enchantment…so looks like hopefully you will be able to get/kill Rag soon for a helm token.

Neck

Firemind Pendant
227 int, 341 stam, 144 spirit. 156 mastery
Not too shabby – but will setup back 1250 VP.

Flowform of Rhyolith
227 int, 341 stam, 162 spirit. 133 mastery
drops from Rhyolith :P

The one i think i will want to get

Flowform Choker
227 int, 341 stam, and a red socket and int socket bonus!
143 haste and 115 mastery—delicious
Drops from the Majordomo

Shoulders

Mantle of Closed Doors

Drops from Baleroc – yellow socket, int socket bonus. 211 crit and 167 mastery…might want to pick it up.

Our only other choice is our T12

Mantle of Cleansing Flame
282 int, 454 stam, 201 spirit. Blue socket, int bonus. Haste of 183.

Chest

Appears once again 2 choices:

Robes of Smoldering Devastation – meh once again no spirit…

Hold out for our T12 in my opinion.

Robes of the Cleansing Flame
368 int, 611 stam, 261 spirit. Yellow and Blue sockets, 20 int bonus. Mastery of 243.

Wrist

Woah choices…not really. 2 choices here. 1 with spirit and one with out.

I would recommend the VP one.

Firesoul Wrists
1250 VP – remember these are BoE you might be able to get for a pretty penny.

Hands
1st there are the crafted ones – get it if you can, but don’t forget more then likely you will not be able to upgrade the crafted pieces.

Grips of altered reality

Other then that:

Cindersilk Gloves

or

Handwraps of the Cleansing Flame

Belt/waist

2 choices here – neither with spirit….

I like the Majordomos chain of office – from the Majorodomo

over the:

Embereye Belt – needs honored with the Avengers of Hyjal

But then again I like haste.

Legs

1st choice: tier leggings

Legwraps of the Cleansing Flame
Although, it has crit can reforge it to your liking.

Otherwise its
Leggins of Billowing Fire
Which has no spirit and has haste and crit.

Feet

Endless Dream Walkers
These are quite nice, but watch out as they probaly will not be upgradable. Also depending on your server expensive. (need to find a crafter on drak with there on horde side…sigh…

Coalwalker Sandals from Shannox – prob want to get these as can upgrade these the BoE appears you cannot.

Rings

Quicksliver Signet
Exalted with Avengers of Hyjal – not a bad ring. :)

Soothing Brimstone Circle
VP – 1250. Crit…

Or

Crystal Prison band from Shannox

Crit and mastery. No spirit

Trinkets

Fiery Quintessence- Revered with Avengers. Nice amt of spirit if you need…on use is a lot of int.

Eye of Blazing Power – from Alysrazor – interesting, appears has a 45 sec ICD

Jaws of Defeat – from the Majordomo – the on use proc is very interesting.

I would recommend getting all of them and playing around with them in coordination with your trinkets from 4.1.

Staffs

Smoldering censer of purity – is nice. But unknown where it drops from – comes from any of the bosses as an addition to their loot table. 186 haste and 2334 SP and red socket with int bonus.

Funeral Pyre – from Beth’tilac is not bad. Reforge some of that crit into spirit. 288 crit. 225 mastery. 2334 SP

Shoravon!!!! Drool!!!! – Ragnaros. Red socket bonus. 316 mastery, 218 crit, 2467 SP, reforge that crit!

Main hand

Kogun!!!! – Ragnaros!! Don’t let those stinky pallys have this (they can haz spellpower axe.) Also don’t let lootwhore Zarm have it either!! 105 haste and 2467 SP.

Chelleys Scalpel – this one may cost a lot. Drops from Trash – 2333 SP. 118 Crit. 113 mastery.

Off hand/Wands

CUP OF ANNGORRR – Shannox – 160 haste. Not bad. Get this one. :) Actually really good….obtain at the cost of your soul.

OMFG WAND CHOICES….

Phoenix Feather Wand- 83 mastery. 700 VP

or

Stinger of the Flaming Scorpion – no spirit. 90 Crit and 77 mastery. – from the majordomo.

Remember, crafted gear will serve you when you 1st get there, but cannot be upgraded.

Remember to keep your old gear…

•Upgrade Weapons and Relics from the Patch 4.2 Valor Points Vendor to heroic quality.
•Upgrade Weapons and armors from the Firelands raid to heroic quality. Since they aren’t listed in the loot table of any boss I will assume they’re trash loot but I could be wrong.

To buy the upgraded version of an item, you will need the normal version of the item and 1 Crystallized Firestone.

Overall, I cannot wait for firelands!!! But seems like there are fewer choices for cloth healers then the other healers. Some of the pieces chosen you will be in competition with caster DPS. Then again gearing in Cata has been rather restrictive in nature.

Update: Now with Firelands in full swing…the lack of spirit cloth is not as bad for disc as it is for out Holy brothers and sisters. :(

Old Slice is Old.

June 24, 2011 5 comments

I know this is old new but Shadow Rising is now 12/12! Go us!

I am glad that we were able to down the content before the nerf to T11 raids. However, the competitive person in me wishes we had made some attempts/kills in Heroic modes.

I started raiding with SR back in 12/3/09 – horrible gear and ICC was about a month or two away. I dinged 80 1 week or so before the LFD and I hit those dungeons hard. I geared up my priest from Ilvl 200 to everything i could get with badges – full T9 and whatever slots I could fill in. Then did a few ToC’s and then ICC. Ahh miss the old crew…

Did very well for a while and then lets not bring up old memories, but I felt it was time to move on…

So I shopped around and eventually joined an Alliance guild on Skywall (choice – btw they are recruiting! Great group). I had a great few months there, it was odd going from 10 man to the 25 man environment. But at the time it was great, I got to do heroics and it was a blast.

The drive to down something on Heroic was a hunger that I do miss I admit. I got to heal with some amazing healers, Fugs, Ygg (grr I could barely keep up with him on the meters!), Colwyn, Vvtra, Akena, and Pally Blogger Star, Madrana. They were definitely on the pervy side but in a good way! they were funny and was a warm feeling to be raiding with that crew. (lol the gnome mages, Panyx and Geng always cracked me up)

Although, I did not get all the Heroics done in 25 man when current, I was realy close, there was only HLK25 left on my plate, it was an experience that was a blast.

But eventually, SR was back in business and I came back home as one would say. We had our struggles I will admit.

We had some hangups with not enough people some nights, to just straight up trying to insert a square into a round hole.

Other times things went perfectly and bosses died left and right. I am glad to be back in SR! 12/12 is nothing to sneeze at!!

However, the “harccore” mentality as Lyss would like to call it is still there….raiding 4 hrs, 3x a week. Heroic modes attempt….I do miss it at times. I still check out Choice’s progress and wish I was still there sometimes. (evil old Heroic Prof Putricide and Sindy.)
